Chard is a hardy biennial that can be direct seeded all season long and can be over wintered in high tunnels. When direct seeded, thinning can promote healthier, more uniform plants. Immature plants can withstand temperatures of 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Chard prefers fertile, well-drained soils with a pH between 6.0-7.0.
