What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  This model has been used for decades to bring small farms and their customers together in a mutually beneficial arrangement.   Each CSA farm looks a little different, but the common theme usually revolves around encouraging its customers to invest in the farm ahead of the growing season.  This benefits our farms by allowing us to plan for the upcoming season, and receive needed income early in the year, when many of our supplies are purchased but before we have produce available to sell.  Beyond the produce you receive during the season, a CSA gives its members the chance to connect on a deeper level with your food, how it is grown, and the people that grow it.  Your commitment to supporting a local farm lets you put your dollars toward a better way of producing, selling, and eating healthy food.

Types of CSA.

There are two common CSA membership programs; traditional prepackaged share and a farm account or free choice share.    Traditional prepacked share program is the more common of the two.  It is where on a weekly or other set time table you receive a prepackaged assortment of produce.  You normally don't decide what you will receive any given week.  A farm account or free choice program allows you to choose how and when you would like to spend your CSA dollars.

Our CSA program.

The Mannor Farm offers a Farm Account or Free Choice CSA only.  It is flexible; you tell us what you want and when you want it; you can skip weeks if you chose.

How it works.  You select the level you want.  We send you an invoice to pay for your CSA.  When we receive payment, we will issue you a prepaid CSA Member card with the balance you choose.  We will let you know what is available on a weekly basis here.  You pre-order any item that we offer for pick-up at one of the local farmers markets that we attend or arrange for farm pick-up by appointment.   You pay for your order with your CSA Member card.  If you prefer, you may come to the local farmers markets and purchase from our selection and pay for it with your CSA Member card.    Once you are a member, you may reload your card at any time during the season with $25 or more and we will add your original Add On (percentage) to the amount added.

If you order products and do not pick them up, your account will still be debited.

As with any CSA, the member assumes some of the risk of growing the products with the farmer.  You are purchasing your share prior to all crops being planted and the farmer not knowing exactly what Mother Nature might have in store for us in any one season.  If for some reason  (mostly Mother Nature) multiple crops fail your membership will applied to the next season when vegetables are growing or you can sell your share to someone who may be interested in joining our CSA.  We do not offer a refund.  You may sell or transfer your CSA share to someone who may be interested in joining our CSA (please notify us if you wish to do so).  We reserve the right to limit the number of memberships that we issue.  So far all our CSA Members have received the full value of their membership in the calendar year it was purchased for.
